Message From The Chairman of Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA)

The Malaysia Food Business Directory 2020/2021 edition is yet another feather in the cap for Marshall Cavendish (M) Sdn Bhd, and we could not be more pleased to be a part of it. This annual publication has for more than a decade provided a valuable service with its extensive compilation of companies, agencies and associations in the food business.

The Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) can certainly relate to being a source of information. Formed to promote the development of franchising in Malaysia, the MFA serves as a resource centre not only for current and prospective franchisors and franchisees but also for the media and the public.

A franchise business has many attractive qualities, such as lower capital, lower risk, faster growth and readily available customer base. It can even be argued that franchises, with the power of their brands, are better able to withstand recessions compared to independent entrepreneurs. This is a crucial point, considering our current economic condition.

In franchising, all business sectors are good. It depends on how they develop and practice the system itself. Based on the statistic provided by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), the highest registered franchise sector is from Food & Beverages Sector (F&B) with 40% and followed by Learning Centre and Nursery Sector with 11%. Besides, the demand for local F&B franchise brands in international market is very impressive.

MFA is now presented with an opportunity to double up its efforts in promoting franchising as a viable business option to those who have unfortunately lost their jobs. With members that include master franchisors and franchisees, government agencies, banks, accounting firms, consultants, attorneys and suppliers, the MFA is in a unique position to create an environment that is conducive to the growth of franchising in Malaysia.

As MFA looks forward to doing its part in supporting the country is out look to economic recovery, we would like to congratulate Marshall Cavendish (M) Sdn Bhd and thank them for their support of our industry.

YBhg. Datuk Dr. Hj Radzali Hassan
The Chairman of Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA)
